Helios acts as a credible business-oriented conduit for applying funding to carefully selected projects that supply affordable energy to poor communities on a sustainable basis.
Grant funds may come from a variety of sources, including traditional sources (multi-laterals, bi-laterals, and trust funds) and companies (as corporate social responsibility capital). These funds are applied – in the form of equity and/or shareholder debt – after a careful selection process, including the application of robust investment criteria, so as to maximise developmental and environmental impacts.
In addition, Helios accesses funding from commercial and development lending institutions on appropriate terms.
Helios therefore acts both as a channel for financing and as a means of “de-risking” projects for financiers, who will gain comfort that a project is well-structured and well-governed.
