EA2 initiatives facilitate total energy access by developing an environment which enables the growth of a range of energy product and service providers.
Helios SE is working as part of the POWERFUL Group that is currently piloting the EA2 initiative in the Mulanje and Phalombe districts of Malawi.
Having completed a scoping study in 2011, the POWERFUL Group is now looking at a range of initiatives including:
• Commercialization of an existing community hydro mini-grid scheme and development of replica schemes
• Providing access to, and finance for, household appliances (in coordination with local community energy projects)
• Facilitating access to sustainable biomass and biomass stoves for cleaner cooking
• Fostering coordination amongst energy access stakeholders
Helios SE is bringing its specific expertise in the development of sustainable mini-grids to support the EA2 programme.
The POWERFUL Group is a coalition of organizations with a shared ambition to develop innovative and sustainable ways of improving energy access in the developing world. Current members include Ariya Capital, Bosch-Siemens Hausgeräte (BSH), Helios Social Enterprise, Philips, Practical Action and Siemens Stiftung.
